COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT ON PAGE 77

THIS COUNTER CIRCUIT WILL BE USED TO COUNT THE ROTATIONS OF OUR MOTOR AND THUS DETERMINE WHICH FLOOR THE ELEVATOR IS ON.  MAKE SURE THIS CIRCUIT IS WORKING BEFORE YOU CONTINUE WITH MY ADDITIONS.

  REMOVE WIRE BETWEEN 46 AND G17  
  REMOVE WIRE BETWEEN 47 AND 49 (WHITE)  
  REMOVE WIRE BETWEEN 48 AND G2 (RED)  
  MOVE WIRE BETWEEN F27 AND V4 TO V6 (RED) THE COUNTER CHIP NEEDS MORE POWER TO TRIGGER BOTH THE FLIP-FLOP AND LIGHT THE LED
  REMOVE WIRE BETWEEN M24 AND I27 (WHITE)  
  REMOVE RESISTER AT SPRING 46  

 

REPLACE 1 mF CAPACITOR WITH A 10 mF CAPACITOR

THIS LARGER CAPACITOR IS NECESSARY TO CONTROL SWITCH BOUNCE ON OUR EXTERNAL SWITCHES.

 

INSERT NPN TRANSISTOR 9014 AT  C6 (E)  B6(B) AND A6 (C)

THIS TRANSISTOR ALLOWS THE FLIP-FLOP TO CONTROL THE RELAY

 

INSERT 4013 FLIP-FLOP ACROSS SLOT 1 WITH PIN ONE AT E5

THE FLIP-FLOP IS VERY SIMILAR TO A LATCH.  IT WILL CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE MOTOR

 

PLACE RELAY ACROSS SLOT 1 WITH PIN ONE AT T5

THE RELAY ALLOW THE FLIP-FLOP (THROUGH THE TRANSISTOR)  TO CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE MOTOR.

 

CONNECT V2 AND A7 (WHITE WIRE)

POWERS RELAY – 3 VOLTS BECAUSE RELAY IS 3 VOLTS

 

CONNECT I7 AND H7 (WHITE WIRE)

GROUNDS UNUSED FLIP-FLOP INPUTS

 

CONNECT J8 AND I8 (WHITE WIRE)

GROUNDS UNUSED FLIP-FLOP INPUTS

 

CONNECT K7 AND J7 (WHITE WIRE)

TELLS THE CLOCK TO COUNT MOTOR REVOLUTIONS WHILE THE ELEVATOR IS ASCENDING

 

CONNECT G30 AND J4 (BLUE WIRE) 

SETS THE FLIP AND REVERSES MOTOR WHEN FLOOR IS REACHED

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CONNECT SPRING 52 TO 28 (BLUE WIRE) 

THIS WILL SELECT A FLOOR TO STOP AT

 

CONNECT SPRING 50 TO 22  (BLUE WIRE)

THIS WILL SELECT A FLOOR TO STOP AT

 

CONNECT SPRING 48 TO 16 (BLUE WIRE)

THIS WILL SELECT A FLOOR TO STOP AT

 

CONNECT SPRING 51 AND H3 (BLUE WIRE)

THIS SWITCH RESETS THE FLIP-FLOP WHEN THE CORRECT FLOOR IS REACHED

 

MOVE WIRE AT 47 TO 46 (BLUE WIRE)

 

  CONNECT SPRING 49 AND 51 (BLUE WIRE)  
  CONNECT SPRING 51 AND 53 (BLUE WIRE)  
  CONNECT RESISTER (YEL-VIO-RED) TO L13 AND G17  

 

CONNECT SPRING 47 AND J1 (BLUE WIRE)

THIS SWITCH WILL SET THE FLIP-FLOP AND START THE ELEVATOR UPWARDS

 

CONNECT H2 AND V4 TO POSITIONS 1 AND 3 ON EXTERNAL SWITCH (1)

THIS SWITCH WILL STOP THE ELEVATOR AT THE TOP IF NO FLOORS ARE SELECTED.

 

CONNECT G20 AND V4 TO POSITIONS 1 AND 3 ON EXTERNAL SWITCH (2)

THIS SWITCH WILL COUNT THE ROTATIONS OF THE MOTOR

 

CONNECT O2 AND M8 TO POSITIONS 1 AND 2 ON EXTERNAL SWITCH (3)

THIS SWITCH IS USED TO STOP THE ELEVATOR AT THE BOTTOM

 

 

CONNECT Q2 AND Q9 TO MOTOR TERMINALS

 

 

 

How to quiz this circuit: 
Turn on your lab’s power as well as the external power to your motor.  Your motor should start running. 

Hold down S2, S3 or S4 and then press and release S1.  While holding S2, S3 or S4, click switch 2 until the LEDs on the lab reach the floor you have selected.  Your motor will reverse.  The motor will run until switch 3 is depressed signaling the bottom of the elevator shaft.  Switch 1 will reverse the motor when it reaches the top if no floor is selected. 

 

Challenge:

Use the unused right side of your Flip-Flop and the SPDT relay in your lab to cause the motor to stop when reaching its floor and wait for S1 to be depressed before returning to the bottom.
