ETS Events 2012-2013

We need to have a large parental presence to make our events run smoothly. Parents do not need to come to every event, but we ask that you attend at least half as many events as your student attends. Younger family members are certainly welcome at events appropriate to their age. All events are at the Hinrichs' residence unless stated otherwise.

Potluck and Barbeque Instructions

Please bring your own drinks, plates and utensils. Please bring a main course and if your last initial begins with A-L please bring a salad or side dish and if M-Z, a dessert. Please bring an amount proportionate to the number of mouths you bring with you. The barbeque will be available if you would like to cook meat or vegetables. If you are not able to bring food, please bring $4 per person for the pizza fund. Please give the money to Mr. Hinrichs as soon as you can the day of the event so he knows how much to order.

Tickets are free to the concert due to some very kind pricing from the center for the arts and some very generous contributions from the Hass and Hinrichs matriarchs.  We have reserved the entire first balcony (250 seats!) and would love to get the tickets to interested members of the homeschool community.  Is there a catch?  Yes!  If you take tickets and do not use them, you are commiting to reimburse the donors their $5 per ticket.  So, please request what you need but be careful not to take them if you are not sure that you and your guests are coming.  Please also note that this is a formal concert.  You best behavior is taken for granted and you are requested to reserve your applause until the end of the performance.  The silence will help the musical spell to be effectively cast.  There will be a sign up sheet for tickets in the local classroom that you can use to reserve your tickets.

Here is a website (http://www.soupsong.com/ibard.html) with a list of foods mentioned in Shakespeare, along with quotes from the plays. You might try making something using these ingredients.

For example, you could make a salad using

apples, ( Henry IV, part I, III, 3:
FALSTAFF: Bardolph, am I not fallen away vilely since this last action? do I not bate? do I not dwindle? Why my skin hangs about me like an like an old lady's loose gown; I am withered like an old apple-john.)
walnuts, ( The Taming of the Shrew, IV, 3:
PETRUCHIO: Why, this was moulded on a porringer; A velvet dish: fie, fie! 'tis lewd and filthy: Why, 'tis a cockle or a walnut-shell, A knack, a toy, a trick, a baby's cap: Away with it! come, let me have a bigger.) and
lettuce ( Othello, The Moor of Venice, I, 3:
IAGO: Virtue! a fig! 'tis in ourselves that we are thus or thus. Our bodies are our gardens, to the which our wills are gardeners: so that if we will plant nettles, or sow lettuce, set hyssop and weed up thyme, supply it with one gender of herbs, or distract it with many, either to have it sterile with idleness, or manured with industry, why, the power and corrigible authority of this lies in our wills.)

For fun, you could write out the quotes in which your food items are mentioned and tape them on the food dish.

After dinner, we will teach some Elizabethan dances and also do some of the dances we already know. We will end with singing. Please feel free to dress in Elizabethan costume or as characters from Shakespeare’s plays.

Looking forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hinrichs - christy@hinrichs.org
